You Won’t Believe The Staggering Cost Of Some Of The World’s Most Expensive Diamonds

What if you could own one of the world’s most costly diamonds?

Well, you can! That is if you have millions and millions of dollars. We are your local Austin diamond buyers and before we reveal the jaw-dropping figures, let’s first discuss what determines the cost of a diamond.

How To Examine A Diamond Like A Pro

First things first

There are 4 major factors to determine how much a diamond is worth, know as the 4C’s of diamond grading.

# 1 The Cut

Simply put, this refers to the shape of the diamond as well as the proportions, symmetry and polish.

# 2 Clarity

There are 11 Grades to determine your diamonds clarity. The fewer inclusions, or blemishes in a stone, the better the clarity grade.

# 3 Color

This refers to diamonds that lie within the color range, not “fancy” color diamonds that are blue or red. Actually, the less color, the more valuable the stone is.

# 4 Carat

As most people already know, this is a way to measure the size of a diamond.

You can learn more about the 4C’s from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA)

Now Onto The Fun Stuff

Breaking News!!

The 14.62 carat “Oppenheimer Blue” diamond just sold for a record-breaking $57.5 million, according to CNN Style. It was sold to a private collector and is the best quality and largest blue diamond ever sold at an auction.

In case you are wondering, blue diamonds make up about only .0001% of all of the world’s diamonds. This solves the mystery of why they are so expensive.

Some Other Ridiculously Expensive Diamonds

The Koh-I-Noor Diamond: Priceless

  • The name comes from the Persian phrase; “Mountain of Light”
  • It is 105 carats
  • Came from Golconda in the Andhra Pradesh state of India
  • It remains in the possession of the British Royal Family and is held at HM Tower of London

The Hope Diamond: $350 Million

  • 45.52 carats
  • Located at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington DC

The price of rough diamonds is on the rise, and investors are getting in on the action.

Crazy Expensive Diamonds Actually Owned By Real People

A Word Record

In 2010 a businessman from Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook Jewellery paid $35.3 million for the Cullinan Heritage diamond, weighing in at 507 carats. This is the highest price ever paid in the world for a rough diamond. This diamond is expected to sell for a staggering $25 Million.

The Price For “Flawless” Diamonds

Ever heard of Harry Winston?

Sold at Christie’s auction in Geneva for $26.7 million, was the “Winston Legacy” Diamond which is said to be a “flawless” 101.73 carats.

What About Us Regular People?

After researching, reading reviews & visiting a few "seemingly" good jewelers, I made up my mind and I chose to do business with M.I. Trading. I felt they were above the others in every way.
Other jewelers made me feel like they were doing me a favor even looking at the jewelry which I wanted to sell. Some others low balled me.
I knew I found someone that I could trust when I went to M.I Trading. Moran did not rush me. He explained everything to me and was completely transparent, because he wanted me to make educated decisions. Nobody else even came close to caring about my business, never mind taking the time to educate me.
At M.I. Trading, I had the opportunity to think about what I wanted to do, without any pressure ... and when I decided what I wanted to sell, Moran gave me TOP DOLLAR.
I could not be happier that I found M.I. Trading, a company that I can trust.

The wife and I had some flatware to sell. We did some research and came up with a bottom price we would accept and a "wishful thinking" price we would really like. After checking reviews, we settled on M.I.Trading and mad an appointment. Upon arrival we met with Moran and he talked us through the process, how it was weighed and answered all of our questions. When it was said and done, Moran came up with a number that was just short of our "wishing" number. We shook hands, he handed us a check and had us on our way faster than I thought. We would highly recommend M. I. Trading.

I recently decided to sell some sterling silver flatware and other items that were languishing in storage, not wanted by relatives.
I found M.I. Trading on line. Mr. Tairy responded to voicemail immediately and met me at his office the next day. He was helpful, professional, and forthright. He evaluated everything and made an immediate offer. I was sorry to see my pretty things go but left within the hour with a cheque for a substantial and fair price.

Moran is the best in the business. I shopped around before selling my gold and silver, and Moran not only offered me the most for my pieces, but was extremely thorough in his process, communicative, and funny! His near 20 year experience in the industry speaks for its self. He is extremely knowledgeable. There is no one else I will ever use. Moran has exclusively earned my business for the foreseeable future.

I went by for a quick appraisal and Moran was able to squeeze me in without an appointment, which I highly recommend.
I’m looking forward to doing business with them again.

The owner was very knowledgeable about not only gold but silver and miscellaneous jewelry as well. He carefully evaluated the many items I had collected from my mother's estate and then sorted them into groups depending upon their value. After spending approximately an hour evaluating the items I brought him he determined the value and wrote us a check in an amount that I felt was extremely fair.
